CAROLINA JUNIOR HURRICANES/EAGLES ALUMNI NEWS

Carolina Junior Hurricanes, (Formerly Carolina Eagles),  are proud to announce that former player Andrew Stahel has been accepted to University of Texas Galveston Medical School.  Stahel, was recruited by Franklin Pierce University while playing for the Carolina Eagles.  He attended and played for Franklin Pierce while earning his Bachelors degree and making high honors Deans List.  He will now go on to earn his Medical Degree at UTG Medical School.  Stahel's Former Coach and current GM of the Carolina Junior Hurricanes had this to say about Andrew; "Andrew came to this program because he had a passion to not only play college hockey, but to also use hockey to open doors to colleges and universities that would allow him to pursue his future career as a Doctor/Surgeon.  While still pursing his passion for hockey, as a high school assistant coach in the Dallas area, Stahel will now also be pursuing his dream of Medical School.  This is just another example of an individual learning life success lessons through Junior Hockey.  It is something that we pride ourselves on here at the Carolina Junior Hurricanes." Flagg went on to say, "From the day Andrew came to Raleigh, we knew he would become a very successful person.  Great work ethic, character, and drive to be the best, are all traits Andrew has and that combined with his academic ilk, has propelled Andrew to the small percentage that are accepted into Medical School.  We all wish him the very best."

The Carolina Junior Hurricanes, (formerly Carolina Eagles) are pleased to announced that former goaltender Frank Cundiff, who graduated and played hockey at NCAA Curry College, has been accepted into Rutgers School of Dental Medicine with a four year scholarship from the U.S. Navy.  Once Frank graduates from Dental School, he will serve his Country as a Navy Dentist.  Lincoln Flagg, the Jr Hurricanes GM and Franks Former Jr Coach, went on to say, "I am not surprised with Franks personal success.  He has always been a focused individual with a tremendous work ethic.  He was a top goaltender that has taken the lessons he learned as a hockey player and transitioned those lessons into life success.  The Junior Hurricanes congratulate and wish Frank (Cheech) Cundiff continues life success.

USPHL JR HURRICANES INVITED TO NA MAIN CAMP

The Austin Bruins of the North American Hockey League have invited Forward Austin Dennison (2000) , Forward Jason Foltz (2000), Forward Jonathan Davenport (2001), Defenseman Nolan Tabraham (2002), and Forward Austin McNabb (2000) to their Main Selection Camp for the 2019-2020  season. The Junior Hurricanes want to congratulate these players and wish them the best of luck at camp! 

CAROLINA JUNIOR HURRICANES TABRAHAM AND PERNA PERFORM WELL AT YOUNGSTOWN USHL CAMP

The Carolina Jr Hurricanes USPHL Junior teams are proud to announce that Goaltender Jack Perna (2000) and Defenseman Nolan Tabraham (2002) were both invited to the Youngstown Phantoms USHL Camp. Both players played outstanding and were noticeable and are awaiting notification for Main Camp. 

CAROLINA JR HURRICANES SIGN CZECH GOALTENDER

The Carolina Jr. Hurricanes are proud to announce the signing of Czech goaltender Daniel Vecka for the 19-20 season. Daniel played the 18-19 season with HC Slavia Praha U19 where he amassed a .918% with 2.33 GA. Daniel stated "I'd like to thank the Carolina Jr. Hurricanes for this great opportunity to play here and I hope that I can perform at my best." 

CAROLINA JR CANES SIGN DEFENSEMEN JAKUB VIEDEMANN

The Carolina Jr Hurricanes are proud to announce the signing of defensemen Jakub Viedemann from HC Litvinov U19. Jakub will be a great asset for our defense core this upcoming season and we're extremely glad and excited to have him part of our Junior organization!


Jakub stated "I'm very happy to join the Carolina Jr Hurricanes club. It's a great honor to be a part of this organization. I look forward to this new part of my life and I will do my best to help the team win the championship!"

CAROLINA JR HURRICANES SIGN FORWARD FROM SWEDEN

The Carolina Jr Hurricanes USPHL organization are proud to announce the signing of Forward Alex Nilsson from Munkfors Sweden. Alex played the 2018 - 2019 season with Mora IK J20 in the Swedish Super-Elite Junior league, the highest level of U20 hockey in Sweden.

The Carolina Junior Hurricanes are very excited to the addition of Alex to their Premier Team. Alex is a very skilled and talented two way hockey player that will bring experience and a lot of offense to the Team.

Local Junior Hockey Program Begins New Season Rebranded and Under New Leadership

 

 

Raleigh, NC – Jocelyn Langlois, Chief Executive Officer of Carolina Eagles Junior Program of the United States Premier Hockey League (USPHL), has announced that the organization will begin the 2019-2020 season rebranded as the Carolina Junior Hurricanes.  With this transition, the organization has named Kevin St. Jacques as the Premier Head Coach and Elite Assistant Coach.  The USPHL Southeast Division has ranked in the top for the past several seasons, with over 75 NCAA commitments last season.  The division is proven to be outstanding for player advancement.  St. Jacques, formerly with the Atlanta Knights/ Kings Hockey Organization, is renowned for moving more than 40 players on to NCAA D3 schools and several ACHA programs and will now conduct these efforts within the Carolina Junior Hurricanes program.  Lincoln Flagg, former Premier Head Coach, will remain on staff as the General Manager and College Player Placement Coordinator. 

 

“A primary goal of the Junior Hockey Program is to create the best environment in which our athletes will thrive while potentially advancing their athletic careers through extensive exposure to NCAA Colleges.  While I am extremely proud of the many accomplishments of the Carolina Eagles program and each of the key members that contributed to that success, partnering St. Jacques with our esteemed team of experts remaining with the program will provide a dynamic atmosphere for all of our athletes and their families,” said, Langlois, CEO of Carolina Junior Hurricanes. 

 

“I welcome Kevin St. Jacques to the Carolina Junior Hurricanes USPHL Teams,” said Flagg, General Manager of Carolina Junior Hurricanes.  “We believe Kevin’s professional experience, communication skills, and ability to inspire athletes, will be an asset to this organization.  I personally look forward to working with him in the future.”

 

I would like to extend my congratulations and welcome Kevin and his family to North Carolina and the Carolina Junior Hurricanes.  As an opponent in years past, Kevin has gained my respect as a Coach.  The talent, morality, and sportsmanship his athletes demonstrate on the ice is a testament to his outstanding coaching,” said Brad Gaylord, Elite Head Coach and Premier Assistant Coach of Carolina Junior Hurricanes.  “I am excited to work with Kevin, knowing that the knowledge and passion he will bring will be infectious, and our players and staff will benefit.”

 

Kevin St. Jacques joined the Atlanta Knights/Kings Hockey Organization for the 2014-2015 season as Head Coach of the Atlanta Knights Empire team and Assistant Coach of the Atlanta Knights Elite team. After 2 seasons he took on Head Coach Position of both teams. St. Jacques, an Edmonton, Alberta native played both AA and AAA hockey before playing 4 years in the WHL with Spokane and Lethbridge. In his last year in Lethbridge, Kevin led the league in scoring with 65 goals 75 assists 140 PIMs in 71 games. He was a draft choice of the Chicago Blackhawks. St. Jacques started and coached the Richmond Generals U14, 16 and 18 AAA program before going on to coach at the D3 ACHA Club Hockey level prior to joining the Atlanta Kings. During his time with Atlanta, he moved more than 40 players on to NCAA D3 schools and several ACHA Programs.

"I am very proud to be a part of the Carolina Junior Hurricanes program and want to thank Jocelyn and the coaching staff for this great opportunity to work with what’s already a great staff of coaches in the organization," said St. Jacques. "I'm going to give everything I have to the Jr Hurricanes and I am very excited about being a part of the future of the club."

Kevin, along with his wife, Shannon, 10 year old daughter, Mack and their 4 dogs will be relocating from GA to NC this summer.

 

CAROLINA EAGLES COLLEGE COMMITMENTS

         ERIC DANIEL – PREMIER – GOALTENDER – KINGS COLLEGE NCAA - Eric, is from Cary NC and attended Cardinal Gibbons High School where he maintained a weighted GPA of over 4.0, was high school Hobey Baker Award Winner and earned his Eagles Scout from Boy Scouts.  A solid, all around student/athlete hockey player who has committed to NCAA D3 Kings College of Pennsylvania.  Eric will have a great college career in goal and we are so happy for him and his college commitment.

ALEX LAZIER – PREMIER – FORWARD – ALBERTUS MAGNUS COLLEGE NCAA - Alex is from Montreal Quebec but attended Wyoming Seminary Prep before joining the Eagles Program.  He played for the Eagles for two seasons and was an assistant Captain and the Eagles leading Scorer this past season and he has committed to attending and playing for Coach Kyle Wallack at NCAA D3, Albertus Magnus College in New Haven Connecticut next season.  We want to wish Alex the very best in his college career.

ZACH BARNES – PREMIER – DEFENSEMAN – KENT STATE ACHA D1 - Zach hails from Canton Ohio and played for the Eagles for four seasons.  He was  an assistant Captain his last season and a shut-down Dman for the Eagles.  Zach has committed to ACHA D1 Kent State University and will have a tremendous career there.  We want to wish him the best at Kent State on and off the ice.

ARTHUR PRUKHNITSKY – PREMIER – DEFENSEMAN – CAPTAIN – AQUINAS COLLEGE NAIA D1 - Arthur is from Raleigh NC and has played for the Eagles for four seasons.  He led the Team last season as Captain and was the top defenseman with a plus18 on the team.  Arthur has committed to NAIA D1 Aquinas College in Michigan.  We look forward to watching Arthur this season and know he will be a leader at Aquinas as well.

GUS HICKLE – PREMIER – FORWARD – AQUINAS COLLEGE NAIA D1 - Gus hails from Apex NC and has been with the Eagles for three seasons.  Gus is an energy guy who is strong offensively and a great checking forward as well.  He is a leader by example and is a tough player to play against.  Gus has committed to NAIA D1 Aquinas College, along with Arthur Prukhnitsky, and will be another huge addition to Aquinas from the Carolina Eagles.

GAGE ROBERTS – PREMIER – GOALTENDER – NAZARETH COLLEGE NCAA – Gage hails from Las Vegas Nevada.  He has played for the Eagles program for three seasons but really had a great year this past year and caught the eye of several strong hockey schools.  Gage has committed to Nazareth College in Rochester NY and will have a great academic and hockey career there.

OTTO CHAO – PREMIER – FORWARD – UNIVERSITY OF UTAH ACHA D1 – Otto hails from Salt Lake City Utah and played in the Western States League before joining the Eagles last season.  A seasoned penalty killer and shot blocker, Otto brought speed and grit with his game.  He was a shut down defensive forward with offensive skills.  We wish him the best in his college career.

JARRET GREEN – PREMIER – DEFENSE – IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY ACHA D1 – Jarett is from Tampa Florida and grew up playing for Tampa Bay Scorpions.  He played in the NA3 for Point Mallard Ducks before coming to the Eagles.  Jarret brought speed and puck skills as an offensive defenseman.  He played Power Play and has good vision.  Jarett committed to Iowa State ACHA D1. We wish him the best in his career.

MATT MILLER – PREMIER – FORWARD – NORTH CAROLINA STATE ACHA D2 --- Matt hails from Apex North Carolina and has played his junior career with the eagles.  After a bad bone break in is ankle a year ago, Matt stepped into Premier this season and played as a top six forward and was one of the best players three zone players.  Matt will major in Engineering and play hockey next season for North Carolina State University.  We wish him the very best.

MYLES DAVIDSON – ELITE – FORWARD – FLORIDA ATLANTIC UNIVERSITY – ACHA D2 – Myles hails from Stuart Florida and has played for the Eagles for two seasons.  He was a leader and a scorer for the Eagles Elite team.  He will attend and play for Florida Atlantic University this season.

KARL ZODDA – PREMIER – GOALTENDER – NCAA CHATHAM UNIVERSITY – Karl hails from Colorado and played for the Eagles in 2017 2018.  He committed to play for Coach Mike Callan and Chatham University next season and will fight for the starting job.

MIKE MANARO – ELITE – FORWARD – NORTH CAROLINA STATE UNIVERSITY – ACHA D2 Mike hails from Wake Forest NC and moved up to Elite from the Eagles National Bound U16 Team.  As a 6’4” center Mike was responsible in all three zones, played physical and can score.  He will attend North Carolina State University to earn hs engineering degree while trying to help NC State get back to the National again this season.

 

 

ROBBIE CICCIARI – ELITE – DEFENSE – CANISIUS – ACHA D1 – Robbie hails from Raleigh NC and played his youth hockey with the Carolina Hurricanes U16 AAA.  He is a bog, mobile defenseman with a lot of offensive upside but yet still responsible on the back line.  Robbie will be a stellar collegiate player at Canisius.

NOAH FRIEDMAN – ELITE – FORWARD – NORTH CAROLINA STATE UNIVERSITY – ACHA D2 – Noah hails from Carrboro NC and came to us from the Southeast Selects of the               League.  Noah is a fast skating, tough, power forward and will major in International Business while playing at NC State with Manaro, and Miller.

CAROLINA EAGLES PLAYERS GET CALLED UP TO TIER 2

Carolina Eagles Goaltender, Dominic Rodrigue (2000dob) and Defenseman, Francis Young-Menard (2000dob) both received a call up from the Rochester Monarchs on January 15th, 2019. The Monarchs play in the Tier 2 non-pay to play National College Development Conference. Both players dressed and played vs the NJ Hitmen and performed very well. Rodrigue only allowed 1 goal vs the top team in the NCDC in the half game he played and Young-Menard played a regular shift and performed very well. Both players remain with the club and will get in the line up vs the Jr Bruins this weekend.

 

Other Eagles players who were called up to Tier 2 this season were Ian Stonefield, Zac Horn, Parker Jones (all with Rochester) and Owen Gallagher and Bryce Pierce (South Shore Kings).

The Eagles continue to develop and promote their players in order to move them to the next level whether that be college or Tier 1 or 2 Junior teams. Congratulations to all of the above players.

EAGLES PLAYERS INVITED TO TIER 2 CAMPS

Eric Daniel, Gus Hickel, Zack Barnes, Matt Miller, Mike Williams, Alex Lazier, and Ian Stonefield at Rochester’s Tier 2 Camp last week.

CAROLINA EAGLES BRENDAN UMSCHEID COMMITS TO NCAA D3 WORCESTER STATE UNIVERSITY

Carolina Eagles are proud to announce that Forward Brendan Umscheid has made a commitment to NCAA D3 Worcester State University of the MASCAC. Umscheid, a four year player for the Eagles Junior program, also won a U16 National Championship with the Eagles and is a Gold Medalist with Team USA Roller Hockey in the World Championship.  “Brendan has just started to scratch the surface of his potential,” Stated GM/Coach Lincoln Flagg. “He is a power forward who can score goals.  At 6’2” 200 he brings size speed and skill to his game,” Flagg went on to state.  Brendan is from Wake Forest NC and is the son of David and Yvette Umscheid.

TYLER ROMEL MAKES NCAA COMMITMENT

The Carolina Eagles are Proud to announce that Defenseman Tyler Romel has committed to play for NCAA D3 Lebanon Valley College as a freshman 2018. “Tyler is one of the top Defenseman in the USPHL Premier.  He will be a four year starter and an impact player at Lebanon,” stated Coach GM Lincoln Flagg. “Tyler has been a big addition to this years team, having played premier last season for the Springfield Pic’s, he brought that experience and leadership to our defense,” Flagg went on to say.  Tyler is the son of Alex and Pam Romel of Pittsboro NC.


CAROLIA EAGLES SAM RENNERT MAKE NCAA COMMITMENT

The Carolina Eagles are Proud to Announce that Forward Sam Rennert has made a commitment to play for NCAA D3 Castleton State University of Vermont for the Fall of 2018.  “Sam is a tremendous player.  Tough, skilled, smart, and one of the hardest workers I have had the privilege to coach, “commented GM/Coach Lincoln Flagg. “Sam is a leader in the truest sense of the word.  He hates to lose and holds himself and others accountable all the time.”  Sam is the son of Bruce and Sheila Rennert of Raleigh NC.


NEDD-FIELDS MAKES COLLEGE COMMITMENT

The Carolina Eagles are Proud to Announce that Adham Nedd-Fields has made a commitment to play for Iowa State University ACHA team next season.   “Adham came to us this season, after spending a whole summer Training, losing 50 pounds, getting stronger, and wanting to play college hockey.  He is one of the hardest working players and has the drive get better everyday.  We wish him all the best and know Iowa State will be getting a special player.” Stated GM Lincoln Flagg.  Adham is the son of Michael and Shermaine Nedd-Fields of Washington DC.


CAROLINA EAGLE, McGRATH, MAKES NCAA COMMITMENT

The Carolina Eagles are Proud to Announce that Chris McGrath has made a commitment to play for NCAA D3 Wilkes University of Pennsylvania in September of 2018.  “Chris is a 200 foot player and plays all three zones equally well.  He competes every night and make the players around him better,” stated GM/Coach Lincoln Flagg.  “He is the type of player that will make an impact as a freshman.”  “Chris has trained and watched his older brother Patrick, who plays professionally in the American Hockey League for the Penguins Organization.  He prepares and trains like a professional player and that gives him an edge every night,” Flagg went on to say.  Chris is the son of Tom and Deborah McGrath of Shaversville PA.


CAROLINA GOALTENDER MAKES NCAA COMMITMENT  

The Carolina Eagles are Happy to Announce that Goaltender Matthew Forslund has committed to attend and play hockey next season at NCAA D3 Lebanon Valley College.  Forslund made his commitment earlier in the season after visiting Lebanon Valley and watching the team play.  Matt has the best save percentage in the USPHL Premier.  After playing for the Eagles in 2015-16, Matthew played last season at the Tier II level with the Turo Bearcats.  Forslund returned to the Carolina Eagles this season because he felt with the Eagles moving to the Premier level he would get the coaching and exposure he would need to get the best opportunity to be seen and committed by a strong NCAA college.  “Matt brings a professional mentality to his game.  His mental and physical preparation for practice and games and his work ethic is second to none.  His technical skill combined with his athleticism make him one of the best Goaltenders at the Premier level in North America,” commented GM/Coach Lincoln Flagg.   Eagles Goaltending Coach and Hall of Fame Inductee from Western Michigan, Bill Horn had this to say about Forslund; “Matt is a quiet leader with great work ethic.  He has been rock solid all season. He has improved his skill set throughout his years playing for the Eagles.  He has a tremendous amount of junior playing experience that has prepared him for the next level.”  Lebanon Valley College Head Coach Don Parsons had this to say, “We are very excited to have received college commitments from both Justin Hall and Matthew Forslund!  Finding our goalie for the next four years was our number 1 priority. Matt has certainly proven himself to be one of the best goalies in all of Junior Hockey and we are extremely confident that he will come in and do an incredible job between the pipes.  Justin possesses an incredible hockey IQ, skates very well, plays a 200’ game and his vision on the ice sets him apart from most players playing at his level.  We will look for him to add scoring depth down the middle as a top 2 forward.  Not only will Justin and Matt make immediate impacts for our team, but more importantly, they fit our character mold and will be instant assets on the Lebanon Valley College campus.  I would like to thank Lincoln Flagg and the entire Eagles Organization for trusting in our program and Lebanon Valley College.”  Matt is the son of John and Natalie Forslund of Apex NC.


CAROLINA EAGLES LEADING SCORER MAKES NCAA COMMITMENT

The Carolina Eagles Premier Hockey Club is happy to announce that 1998 Forward and Eagles Leading Scorer, Justin Hall has committed to NCAA D3 Lebanon Valley College for the 2018-19 Season.  Hall made his commitment after speaking to Coach Don Parsons and visiting the school.  Hall is an extremely quick, skilled forward with great athletic ability that has a goal scorers touch.  He currently leads the eagles in scoring with 22 goals 17 assists for 39 points in 38 games.  “Justin is a tremendous natural athlete who has become a tremendous hockey player.  He has a great hockey IQ, speed and skill and can shoot the puck, “stated GM/Coach Lincoln Flagg.  “We are thrilled he has chosen to attend Lebanon Valley and I know it was a difficult decision because he had a commitment to play Tier II next season.  But with the strong academic ilk at Lebanon Valley, combined with the great hockey program that Coach Don Parsons has built, it was a no brainer decision for Justin.  Lebanon Valley College Head Coach Don Parsons had this to say, “We are very excited to have received college commitments from both Justin Hall and Matthew Forslund!  Finding our goalie for the next four years was our number 1 priority. CAROLINA EAGLES DEFENSEMAN HALVORSEN MAKES NCAA COMMITMENT

Carolina Eagles Defenseman Brandon Halvorsen made a commitment to Lawrence University of Wisconsin, an NCAA D3 school who plays in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association along with such teams as Adrian College, Lake Forest University, and St Norberts to name a few.  Halvorsen, a 6’4” 220lb, 20 year old from Minooka IL is a second year junior player for Carolina. He started the season playing Tier 2 hockey for Rochester.  He was sent back to the Eagles in November and has been one of the top defenseman all season.  “Brandon is a big kid who can skate.  He has an NHL shot from the point and soft hands for a big guy, with a good first pass.” Commented GM/Coach Lincoln Flagg.  “Halvy has really come on this season and has become a dominate defenseman in our League.”  Brandon is the son of Mark and Michelle Halvorsen of Minooka, IL.


 

CAROLINA EAGLES SEND FOUR PLAYERS TO TIER II ROCHESTER

The Carolina Eagles are proud to announce that Defenseman Owen Gallagher (1999 DOB) and Thomas McGuire (1999 DOB) along with forwards Zack Olen (1998) and Roman Solcani (1998) have been called up by the Rochester Monarchs NCDC Team of the USPHL.  Gallagher, who is from Chicago, is in his first season as a junior player for the Eagles, having played for the Chicago Young Americans U18 Program.  “Owen is a strong defenseman, who is a smooth skater with strong offensive skills and a tremendous amount of grit and toughness.  Understands the game well and brings a strong skill set and compete level to his game, “stated his GM/Coach Lincoln Flagg.  McGuire is from Long Island NY and play for the PAL Islanders last season.  “Thomas is one of the best skaters on our team.
